As Andrea is in Seattle at the moment, I did a day trip to the coast on the F800GS. It really brought many smiles to my face - the ride was fantastic, the weather pretty good most of the time - it was only slight chilly at the end.
So, where did I go? I started in Sunnyvale, as usual, went to San Jose BMW to ask whether they have a cable to charge the iPhone through the Beemer's power outlet. They didn't but ordered one. From there I went to Cycle Gear to take a look at the size of some Airhawk seat pads (small and medium Cruiser) and whether they fit on the F800GS. They might, but it just wasn't perfect and as Cycle Gear was about 50% more expensive then online order, and as I didn't plan to buy anyways, I just left and went on. Up Highway 17 to Bear Creek Road, over Bear Creek Road to Boulder, up on Highway 9, switch to 236, which is a nice ride but was very dirty and narrow in that area, again to Boulder, short stop to buy some juice and water, down Highway 9 to the Pacific, north on Highway 1, then a couple breaks along the way on nice beaches. Back I went over Pescadero and - finally - Old La Honda road. No wonder I always missed that one, it's a tiny road, and right after a corner, easily missed. Had a late lunch / early dinner with a "Honda Burger" at Alice's Restaurant and then took Skyline Blvd. and Page Mill Road down to 280 and back home.
It was a pretty long ride overall (click o this link to get a Google Map for it) - I started around noon, got stuck in some traffic on 280 towards San Jose for about 15 Minutes (now I know again why I like water cooled bikes), I'm not sure when I arrived at the coast, but I was back at Alice's by around 5pm. Didn't have lunch yet so I was starving. About 30 min later went on again and arrived home somewhere around 6pm.
Beautiful trip over some really nice roads, lots of nice twisties. The F800GS really handles well, that's for sure. Still thinking about a 19" front wheel so I can get road tires on though. But okay, so far so good.
